OK here’s a hypothetical for you all:
At 9AM on 10-17 Pelosi gavels the House to order and a resolution is introduced impeaching Donald Trump for “Treason by soliciting Russian interference in the 2016 election”. The Rules Committee announces two hours of debate. At 11AM the question is called, and Trump is impeached by a vote of 240-195, which includes 5 Republicans.
At 1PM John Roberts arrives at the Senate accompanied by Mitt Romney and Chuck Schumer. Roberts enters the chamber and calls the Senate to order.
Roberts announces that for reasons of “national security”, he has ruled that no evidence can be discussed on the floor. His ruling is appealed and is upheld 49-51, with Romney, Murkowski, Tillis and Sasse voting with the minority.
Romney then announces that 20 “brave and patriotic Republicans” have agreed “with heavy hearts” to join him in voting “guilty”, and he calls on Trump to resign.
Trump refuses.
Roberts announces that a vote will be held at 5PM, and Romney’s intel is good, the Senate votes to remove Donald Trump 67-33.
The question is, does this scenario comply with the Constitution, and if it does not, will the military support Trump remaining in office?
