My $.02

-Erdogan’s done.

- Turkey’s continued slot in NATO is at risk.

- POTUS compromised on the troops, but the number is small and they’re in the South, not NE Syria so the Kurds stay with the agreement reached last night. — This decision controls the Kurds’ and Graham’s expectations from the US.

Hell of a day in the cesspool.

It’s because you’re believing the nonsense that the media is spewing. The Turks were going in with or without the U.S. Trump moved them out of the fight that was coming. He wasn’t willing to let them be a “trip wire”. He didn’t just move them without cause as you seem to believe

That’s even more ridiculous.
Imagine what a cowardly weak signal that would send to future allies.

Future allies? What is an ally exactly? If the states were fighting against Mexico which one of our “Allies” would join in? Allies are there when it serves their needs. The Kurds are allies only in that the U.S was their best option. Look, now they are allies with Russia and Assad again...why? That’s their best option. There will always be allies because there will always be people who approve and whose needs meet yours. With the possible exception of Britain I don’t think their is a country who will ALWAYS be allies in all situations. See Iraq war

Has POTUS lifted sanctions on Syria? If not, he doesn’t need to blather about humanitarian actions to me. Especially, after gifting Al Qaeda’s White Helmets 5 million dollars.

He needs to close Al Tanf. The rukban deconfliction zone there where US sponsored terrorists had free reign, and the US kept displaced Syrians from receiving food and medicine or evacuating.

Reprehensible conduct by the US.

All Trump has to do is state "Due to Turkey's initiation of aggression in Syria, the US will not in any way respond or retaliate against the government of Syria, or any of Syria's allies, for any response they might make against Turkey".

Then let Turkey sweat.

Well, here’s a thought. If you disagree with a moving a handful of troops out of the way of a larger force, gear up and take their places. That is the solution.

"I am fully prepared to swiftly destroy Turkey's economy if Turkey's leaders continue down this dangerous and destructive path"

When President Trump talks like this he means it.

Moving 1,000 or 50 troops out of the path of a 15,000 man force is usually seen as an expedient measure. Who's to say S2 didn't have detailed knowledge of the idiot erdogon's plans?

This action exposed Turkey. But it also additionally exposes NATO as a flaccid organization. Turkey has gone to the Rooskies and NATO sat by.
Complete the exorcism. Vote Turkey out of NATO.

As I understand the opposition to the President (from the Dems and from his own party), we are supposed to intervene on behalf of the Kurds, who have now aligned with Animal Assad The Gas Master, who we were supposed to kill to protect the Kurds, who were fighting against ISIS, who Assad was also fighting against, and now we have to take on NATO “ally” in order to keep ISIS from reappearing in Syria, though ISIS pretty much faded away once Trump defunded the “moderate rebels”, and by taking on Turkey, we are on the side of Assad, who we were supposed to kill. If we don’t invade, Northern Syria could fall back into the hands of ...... Syria. Nope, no possible quagmire there. Good thing we have really smart people like Marco Rubio to guide us through these complex issues.

To hummblegunner you posted: "Do you ever achieve a sensible on topic opinion?"

IMHO, H-G is a very important "antibody" here in FR...

Just as in your body, where antibodies are an extremely important part of your immune system. They fight germs, but sometimes they make a mistake and target your body's healthy cells instead.

' Better safe than sorry!

Erdogan will respond. He has harassed and cut off access to Incirlik in the past, it would be so easy for him too do so again. He has also threatened to send Syrian refugees North into Europe. We will see who makes the next move.

There are various factions of Kurds, just as there are various factions of Americans. So these are not the same faction of Kurds that we supported in Iraq, they are the communist faction of Kurds. These Kurds are in no way considered to be our ally. They were a mercenary force that we paid well and supplied arms to. Unfortunately Turkey is an ally by its membership in NATO.
