I grew up with Cesar Romero as the Joker. I guess I don’t understand the dark psychotic Jokers of movies of recent decades.
A lot of it is inspired by Mark Hammill’s joker in the cartoons.
DC Batman comic storylines took a pretty dark turn in the 2000s. Old school villains that were robbing for money took a back seat to villains that wanted revenge at any cost.
jack nicholson made a great joker- his grin was really creepy looking in that makeup
