And our power is still out. Expected to be back on by October 13th at 11 pm. My wife couldn’t start the generator yesterday. So...no fridge...of course no well water. Although we do have a hand pump. Have rotary phone so I can call her...as she can’t charge cell phone. Pioneer living at its best...jeez. I am down here in Fresno working...can’t return until after Columbus Day...
Figuring out what to do for next year...this will be a monthly occurance. Already happened four times this year in Butte County. Most of the time we were gone from the area.
Cost benefit analysis. Invest in newer, higher rated generator to run the well and other household appliances...but then a lot of fuel needs to be kept on hand. Run generator during daylight hours..can do that...still about six gallons a whack...for five days, thats 30 gallons of fuel that needs to be kept on hand.
Could go propane for the generator...still—that uses mucho to, as propane is lower BTU...Solar? No...where to put all the batteries...and they have to be monitored through the summer when I am not there...
Will have to figure this one out. Of course it takes money I don’t really have...
The worst I ever had it here in VA was an ice storm that took out the power for 2 weeks.
Luckily the wood stove and one kerosene heater were able to keep the house warm enough.
Had to carry buckets of water from the lake to flush the toilets.
