It’s a fascinating piece of art with a brilliant performance by Joachim Phoenix. His character is far out but utterly believable and you do wind up feeling some sympathy for him. I just wish Hollywood would use its vast talents to make movies that were uplifting or had some kind of morally redeeming value rather than just being troubling. I felt similarly about Ad Astra, which was quite good in some ways (though not at the level of Joker) but left me feeling nothing but kind of down.

I watched Ad Astra a couple of nights ago and found it quite boring. Watched Joker 2 nights ago and although I applaud Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal, he should win an Oscar, I didn’t care that much for the movie and don’t understand the hoopla surrounding it. It was really sloooow to start and then bam! was over.
