After 7 years on 10mg Lipitor with no issues, switched to the starch-based plant diet. Total cholesterol fell precipitously. After 3 months and a pound a week weight loss, doc concurred to drop statin and check back in 4 months. TC stayed down to levels similar to taking statin. I play sports and there’s a risk of permanent muscle damage, and better to not take chances with statin.
