A new passenger survey ranks New York's LaGuardia, Newark Liberty International in New Jersey and Honolulu International as the worst airports in the nation.
The J.D. Power 2019 North America Airport Satisfaction Study ranked passenger satisfaction with North American airports on a 1,000-point scale in the mega, large and medium size categories.
In the 'mega' category, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport ranks highest in passenger satisfaction with a score of 786.
Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport/Wold (779) ranks second among the megas, while Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (777) and Orlando International Airport (777) rank third in a tie.

From there, I can usually get my car and be on my way out of town in 15 minutes or so. And the rates are very good compared to airports of similar size.
But you are right about the outbound flights. We usually eat where we gas up before the rental car return, somewhere close to downtown since The Strip is expensive and congested.
Same thing with Boston’s Logan. I swear that the baggage handlers just sit outside and wait with the bags just to annoy people. It takes forever. We’ve waited as long as an hour to get our bags. LAX is also a nightmare both inside and out. We fly in and out of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood airport and find it traveler friendly. Our favorite airport is Long Beach.
EWR rhymes with sewer.
For a reason.
Atlanta ATL is not a shabby airport but it can get way too crowded and noisy. Those people transfer carts with their loud, high pitched beeping warning sounds is like torture on the ears. Having to ride the trains between the terminals/ bag claim and another one to the Rental Car Center adds to the joyful experience.
I used to fly through Newark and LaGuardia fairly often back in the 90s. Newark seemed to be pristine and LaGuardia was being remodeled. Wow, how times change. Being retired has some advantages since I no longer have to go to New York. :D
A lot of airport waiting areas have TV news blasting and often its CNN to pile on the annoyance factor.
Cant tell you how many times my moods have gone from sweet to sour just going through the torture of airports suckperiences. Not always but way too much.
The horror stories posted here have confirmed I made the right decision.
No doubt! We fly into Newark to visit our grandkids. It is a wreck. Last thing they did (WHY?) was take out some of the men’s restrooms right in the area where you get off the plane and make the area a DOG pee area. The men get temporary port-a-pots lined up down the walkway going to Baggage. Really? Nice touch, Newark.
And to think - folks fly in there to visit NYC. Some welcome.
Better than having the dogs pee on the airplanes.
Bttt.

Agreed on Dulles—went there once and would never go back.
The place is a total horror show.
PHX should be the new #1 - nicely remodeled terminals and easy access. But once you travel to Asia, you realize how wretched US airlines and terminals are - Greyhound buses and terminals near Skid Row by comparison. :)
“Kansas City airport is nowhere near the pita levels of LGA but inside the terminals are only slightly better than Greyhound Bus stations.”
Agreed. Last year, the wife and I flew from MSP to KCI and then back a week later. The terminal we were in looked old and not ready for the 21st Century. The TSA checkpoints were at least moving smoothly.
But yeah, I think the city is gonna have to shell out some cash real soon for some major rebuilding and/or renovations of the terminals.
Happy to see that Tampa International ranks 3rd for LARGE (vs MEGA) North American Airports. It was well designed from the start in the mid 1960s as a spoke and hub with trams connecting. Being 6 miles from Tampa city center and within 20 miles of Saint Petersburg & Clearwater makes its location ideal as well.
Newark.
You have to travel a long ways to find the place where hotel shuttles make their pickups.
I waited in the cold for almost an hour back in January.
What a nightmare.
Would it be binary then?? How about the dogs stay at home?
