While I personally find that outfit fetching ...

IT IS NOT a "semi-formal dress", or any other kind of dress, as required by the private entity's published dress code.

She hasn't a leg to stand on ... the organization was correct in it's actions.

Yes. And they were very specific about the type of dress allowed. This shouldn’t even be news unless the headline was......Student Didn’t Follow Dress Code so Turned Away.

The dress might technically violate the rules, but I find nothing lewd or overly-suggestive about the outfit, so I probably would have let her in with a mild warning for her to be more careful in the future (if other social events are on tap).

Agreed. The dress code is clear. While the young lady’s attire is attractive and would be suitable for most events (including this one, IMHO, save for the dress code), the underlying issue is that a dress code that is not enforced is essentially abolished. Allow an exception, even a very tasteful, and the sponsor opens itself up to endless challenges.
