The article says she was convicted of “murder.”
First degree murder? Second degree? Third degree?
I can’t find where the article says.
Did the jury buy the argument that she committed premeditated murder?
Texas Homicide law has different categories than first/second/third.
"Capital Murder" (Capitol Felony)
"Murder" (First Degree Felony)
"Murder" (Second Degree Felony)
"Manslaughter" (Second Degree Felony)
"Criminally Negligent Homicide" (State Jail Felony)
Guyger was convicted of "Murder" (First Degree Felony), which is called 2nd Degree Murder in most states. The Jury did NOT lower the charge to a 2nd Degree Felony, though they did give her a sentence that fits into that category.
