The two individuals were not really “smuggling” were they? Weren’t they attempting to employ the toddler to give them cover as a family so that they would get better treatment at the border?

If that was the case, then, what would they do with the child once they cleared the border hurdles? Would their fraudulent “family” put them in a more lucrative position for welfare payments? Perhaps they would attempt to stay intact as a “family”.

Too much evidence of child trafficking going on during Obama administration to be able to separate out the occasional fake family that means well. It used to be catch and release - coyote gets caught with kid (kidnapped kid), poses as father, released back to Mexico. Fake family shows up to claim child - child disappears into child sex trafficking. No follow up - no one knows what happened to child.
