My doctor at least a year and a half ago told me to stop taking Prilosec (Omeprazole) due to its link to causing dementia. I get asked about it and reminded not to take it every visit. I was told to take ranitidine instead. I guess the doctor will tell me to take pepcid when I check in with my appointment next week.

Omeprazole (Prilosec) isn’t a sub for Zantac. Completely different modes of action. And IMO, Primosec shouldn’t be over-the-counter, because it shouldn’t be taken continuously for more than about a month. Also, it interferes strongly with anti-clotting drug Plavix, a dangerous situation for heart and stroke patients.
