Yeah, it seems like a rather important piece of the plane. I'm guessing it would be upsetting to the pilots and passengers if the wings stopped being attached to the body...
Between the software and now this, I'm wondering if at least a few corners were cut in the engineering analysis of the consequences of increasing the wing size and max takeoff weight of the NG versions.
Boeing evidently has issues with its current engineering staff (How many H1B's?) and management.
