thanx.
i understand what happened. I was wondering why it was allowed.
I couldn't seem to find out what the punishment was for Hastings. Transcript has to be somewhere.
It seems only removal from office, but the Constitution says:

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

maybe the Senate has leeway re: punishment ? which it doesn't seem so.
or election to the House of Senate are not considered Offices of Honor, Trust or Profit?

“....the House of Senate are not considered Offices of Honor, Trust or Profit? ...”

To normal people they are, to politicians, who ever holds the majority decides that!
