Its a cliche and its thoughtless, the linguistic equivalent of those stupid ribbons people put on the backs of their cars.

Its a cliche and its thoughtless, the linguistic equivalent of those stupid ribbons people put on the backs of their cars. Also reminds me of those suburban yard signs - almost always in the affluent, leafy suburbs - that state "Hate has no home here" or "No human being is illegal."
Invariably those yard signs are planted by hardened leftists who have zero tolerance for anybody with a conservative opinion on anything. They are among the most hateful and intolerant people you will ever run into. Also, if an illegal alien pitched a tent in their yard, they would call "911" faster than they planted that disingenuous virtue-signalling yard sign.

Its a cliche and its thoughtless, the linguistic equivalent of those stupid ribbons people put on the backs of their cars. Matt Judge addressed this syndrome very effectively some years back, when his characters Beavis and Butthead were watching a televised Hollywood awards show:
Beavis: Whats with all these ribbons these people are wearing?
Butthead: Uhhhh...thats so well know that theyre famous.

It may have gotten stale along with the phrase "Have a nice day" but I find it ridiculous that anyone would object to it or be offended by it. We had a unbearably long period of time (which still persists among some scumbags) where vets were grossly mistreated and maligned. That was as wrong as it gets. Now we're going to complain that everyone thanks them?

As a Desert Storm veteran, I go out of my way to thank those I see in a current uniform, as well as those I see proclaiming their prior service. It’s not all cliche, and it’s not all thoughtless.
