To: US Navy Vet

Yup. Mine were there and the only record they have for me is the cover page from enlistment to the 4 ships I was on to my discharge. One reason I’ve had an issue at the VA. No records to back up anything I tell them. As I understand it the history is supposed to lean in the vets favor. Not quite.

My first request for records in the mid 80's, the response was they 'may have been destroyed by fire'. My first active duty date wasn't until Jan '77. Repeated request over the next few decades went from that to 'we have no proof you even served, send us your DD214'. I finally got them in 2016 and what an incoherent mess they are. Yes, they use that to deny. It IS the official record.
