I agree. I enjoyed that more than the John Wayne version.
In general, though, I don’t like to see remakes. The Godfather should be untouchable, as should Tombstone (even though a case could be made the shootout at the OK Corral was shown in several movies).
Rio Bravo should not have been remade as El Dorado. The former was much better. Wouldn’t have thought I’d ever prefer a Dean Martin performance over Robert Mitchum, but I most definitely did. Plus Rio Bravo had a couple of great tunes, one by Martin, the other by Ricky Nelson. And Walter Brennan was never better than he was in that flick.
Did you ever see the made for TV version of True Grit starring Warren Oates? I actually think it was better than the Duke's version, or at least on parr with it.
