But who knew that in 1979? Our emerging enemies then (besides the Soviets) were the Saudis and OPEC.

Everyone hated Iran and the Mullahs for decades since. They are clearly an enormous threat to peace and security.

But who knew they would have a viable nuke program, on the verge or breakout, and modern missiles to deliver them?
