Jimmy Carter says he couldn’t have managed presidency at 80
Associated Press ^ | September 17, 2019 | Bill Barrow

Weeks shy of his 95th birthday, former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday he doesn’t believe he could have managed the most powerful office in the world at 80 years old.

Carter, who earlier this year became the longest lived chief executive in American history, didn’t tie his comments to any of his fellow Democrats running for president, but two leading 2020 candidates, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, would turn 80 during their terms if elected.

Biden is 76. Sanders is 78.

“I hope there’s an age limit,” Carter said with a laugh as he answered audience questions at his annual report at the Carter Center in Atlanta. “If I were just 80 years old, if I was 15 years younger, I don’t believe I could undertake the duties I experienced when I was president.”

Carter’s remarks came in response to a jovial inquiry about whether he had considered running in 2020 since he’s still constitutionally allowed another term. The 39th president left office in 1981 at the age of 56 after losing his reelection bid to Ronald Reagan, who served two terms and left office as the oldest sitting president in history, at 77.

Either Biden or Sanders would be older upon their inauguration than Reagan was on his final day in the Oval Office. At 73, President Donald Trump is a record-setter, as well. He eclipsed Reagan’s mark as the oldest newly elected president in history and would become the oldest president to be reelected, as well. …

And Ronnie Raygun brought that debacle to a quick close without lifting a finger. Simply by being inaugurated Reagan, terrified Iran so bad that they could not give us our hostages back fast enough. They knew that a real man was back in the WH.

And it was Carter who stopped the US nuclear fuel recycling breeder program dead. Cited fears a terrorist nation might get the enriched fuel!

And then Obolo gave Iran the billions in cash and the fteedom to go do it!

This is an attack on both Biden and Yrump.

I entirely disagree.

1. He effectively arranged for France to allow the exiled Ayatollah to return to Iran, and then overthrow the Shah.

2. He created the largely independent, politically oriented, excessively paid Senior Executive Service: Deep State Central.

His evil, destructive legacy lives on, like that of LBJ, in my opinion.

Carter couldn’t handle the Presidency on the best day of his life.

Hey, smart guy, all that stopped as soon as Reagan became president. Are you sure you’re on the right board?

How did his domestic policy differ?

His 25% luxury taxes destroyed the boating industry. He gave us a 55 mph speed limit, wage freezes, gas shortages, long lines at gas stations, odd/even fill up days and Iranian hostages....OPEC pwned him.

Carter saying that should bring out Captain Obvious, he couldn’t handle it at 40 years old either. His legacy is still with us, it’s called Iran. Facilitating the removal of the Shah was without a doubt the worst foreign policy mistake in my lifetime.

Carter aged at a terrifying rate over those four years.

Trump on the other hand appears to be bearing up quite well.

He couldn't handle it, period. He was grossly incompetent. Thanks Robert A Cook PE.
