I read somewhere an explanation of the coup plotters:
We know crime families exist. They may run horse racing or gambling or hotels. What if criminal gangs “got into government” and ran their criminal enterprises from there?
An old book “None Date Call It Conspiracy” raised the question, what if you had old-money wealthy people, with all their connections, and who were just as sociopathic as Al Capone ?
