“If marriage is an achievement status wont more people want to get married? Or am I missing something? I dont follow the logic.”
Well, a nice house is also an achievement status that people want, but not everyone gets.
I’d also point out that many, many marriageable men chose not to get married simply because many, many women are not marriage material.
I employ a number of young male engineers and geologists; they make in the low-mid six figures in their late 20s. Nice kids, work hard, smart, make a lot money for their ages, and generally well put together and fit (one geologist is a bit of a slob).
They’ve opted out of marriage simply because the women they have dated are clearly mercenary and would not be good life partners. They’re definitely aware of the unfavorable legal climate for men in marriage, and they want no part in it.
I can’t say I blame them.
Theyve opted out of marriage simply because the women they have dated are clearly mercenary and would not be good life partners...
There it is in a nutshell.
Thanks for the clarification. I still don’t see a major barrier to getting married, it just looks like more of a choice.
It has been decades since I was single. Can you explain what a mercenary women is?
