Our berthing was all the way forward on the 03 level, in between the water brakes for Cats 1 & 2 and a couple decks above the fosc’le, (where the anchor windlass is located). Whever they dropped anchor, you’d Definately hear it.

There are youtube videos of runaway anchors, where they lose the anchor and the chain. Heap big snafu when that happens. Each link of a carrier’s anchor chain weighs 365 pounds.

Spent three years under #3 cat water brake, on the 03 level.

The next-to-last shot of chain for the anchor is painted yellow; the last shot is red. SOP was to run if you saw yellow and the brake wasn’t engaged.
