A. I was okay with most the proceedings until I read that the police were not in uniform. How did the driver know who they really were? Although that uncertainty does NOT justify trying to run the men over with his vehicle.

B. All this for a stolen pizza? There must have been a bigger reason why they were after him. Maybe he resembled a criminal connected to lots of assault and battery charges.

Although that uncertainty does NOT justify trying to run the men over with his vehicle.

That's incredibly simple … Suppose you're in your car with your children … and suppose a bunch of dudes in plain clothes run up and start pointing guns at you …

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO???

You have exactly 500 milliseconds to decide. Think fast.

I know what my answer is.

If unidentified men who are not in uniform aim guns at me while I'm in my car, I'm going to do my best to get away from them as quickly as possible, whether that means driving my car right over them or not.

“Although that uncertainty does NOT justify trying to run the men over with his vehicle.”

Sure it does.

The citizen was in fear for his life that the armed men were going to open fire and guess what? That fear was 100% justified by the actions of the armed men.

And hold onto your outrage for a moment...

Now imagine that the armed men had run up on a cop from another jurisdiction and that they had shot the kids of another cop.

How would you feel then?

I think he was plenty justified. If I were facing individuals who I didn't know pointing guns at me, my foot would be standing on the gas.

"All this for a stolen pizza? "

People who commit pizza store robberies are not there after the pizza. They want the money in the till or the safe. Typically they will point a loaded gun at the head of the clerk or the manager making it clear that they will kill in order to obtain the money.

The article seems to say very little as to the disposition of the robbery case.

Hadn't heard of this before so I google'd it and learned it happened in April and the driver hit one of the LEOs with the vehicle. The second LEO opened fire. The children were treated for non-life threatening injuries and the driver was arrested for the armed robbery at the pizza hut.

Hope those kids are OK now and that the mother chooses better daycare providers for her children.

IF someone not in a uniform, holding a gun, tries to stop me, damned right they are getting run over. Just as anyone coming through the door without announcing themselves and being prepared to show me the warrant deserves to die.

“It should also be noted that officers were in plain clothes that day, meaning Smith very well may not have known the two men approaching him with guns were police. HE MAY HAVE THOUGHT THEY WERE OTHER CRIMINALS OUT TO ROB HIM OF HIS STOLEN PROCEEDS and thats why he tried to run them down.”

/fixed it

Use what you have to defend yourself. If it weighs 4000lbs and moves at 100mph, use it.
