"Renault's ability to develop the breakthrough Kwid came from the amazing cost-engineering prowess of Gerard Detourbet, who leveraged his experience at the low-cost Dacia brand into the car that took India by storm."

Detourbet might be the next Steinmetz! But for a Car name they may have to go with Steinmetz middle name.

A photo of Detourbet working on his LOW COST/ NO COST cable TV. https://twitter.com/indiaphotos/status/829623674311475200

I thought that this was going to be an article on this pedal/electric "car".

That’s what we need; a bunch of little coal-fired cars that wants go 100 miles.

My recently purchased diesel replaced a 4 year old diesel. The older one could easily get 53mpg on the Interstate, giving it a range of about 750 miles. My current diesel, having a bigger tank, has a highway range of 805 miles (I've done it twice).and it can be "recharged" in about 4 minutes at any one of 40,000 "recharging" stations coast-to-coast.

Electric? No thanks...not in *this* lifetime.

“under $9,000, Renault has accomplished something that Tesla will likely never be able to achieve”

They could, but won’t stoop so low.
A Tesla 3 is very nice basic model for ~$35,000, with ~300 mile range and lots of features (panoramic sunroof, driver assistance, etc). Thru could certainly make a 100-mile car with minimum features for somewhere close to $10,000 but then they’d wreck their brand & subsequent sales.

I had a Leaf for 2 years. Loved it. Naysayers don’t know what they’re missing.

You can get a used 50,000 mile Leaf for $6000. Maintenance is very low. Gas savings alone make it a great runabout, commuter, or teen’s car. Not for everyone, but great fire many.

Perfect for Europe, where a car is only needed for short urban transport.

Unfortunately, Europeans spend all their money on “renewable” electricity bills.

9 grand is a good price.

100 miles on a charge....unless you charge your phone. Then it goes down to 75 miles.
