We were just on Grand Bahama over the New Years holiday the island was still trying to recover from hurricane Matthew in 2014 and there were still many destroyed houses especially in the town of 8 mile
oddly there were giant hotels there they were completely empty and had been for years because obviously theres been an economic downturn there
nearly 100% of the economy is tourism and with the growth of Nassau New Providence I think a lot of the tourist interest in that large goofy pine laden an island got diminished
the population Is about 90% black and even in the time there we noticed some sketchy behavior that wasnt anything new for us dealing with city people our whole lives
but I can only imagine when all hell breaks loose what is going on there
Just as you find out who your real friends are when the chips are down , you find out the true nature of beef bowl with a crisis hits
Yes, the crime activity was getting bad last year even in Nassau where the cruise ships dock. Cruise lines were even advising passengers not to enter certain areas of town.
So, no surprise to me that its a problem now. Never understood the tourism attraction there, anyway. Nice beaches, I suppose, but everything else is kind of third world Disneyland ghetto. It is right in the middle of hurricane tracks, so every year they run the risk of getting smacked.
