Most Russians Don’t Believe ‘Western Meddling’ Is to Blame for Moscow Protests, Poll Says
Moscow Times ^ | Sep 3 2019

Weeks of demonstrations over elections for the city legislature have turned into the biggest sustained protest movement in Russia since 2011-2013. Russia has accused the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Germany’s Deutsche Welle media outlet and Google of meddling in Russia's internal affairs by allegedly promoting the protests and encouraging people to attend them.

Almost one-third of Russian respondents (32%) dismissed the Western interference claims as attempts to smear the protesters, Levada’s survey published Tuesday said. Another 26% of respondents said that even if meddling did take place, it likely had no effect on the protest movement.

Only 26% of Russians surveyed blamed the West for meddling in the Moscow elections.

“Propaganda didn’t work. The Western conspiracy talking point has failed,” Lev Gudkov, who heads the polling agency, told Russia's Vedomosti business daily Tuesday.

When asked about what had sparked the wave of protests, 45% blamed this summer’s protests on Kremlin-backed candidates who they say are afraid of competition, while 30% accused the protesters of failing to collect the required number of signatures to get on the ballot.

When asked about the occasionally violent crackdown on protesters, 41% of the respondents called the riot police’s actions unjustified and 32% said their response was adequate.

You missed my point above. But that is for the reason explained in post #9 which you support. I don’t think you care about freedom at all.

The poll agency is supposed to know that, in the Western world, it’s up to lawmakers and intelligence to decide whether or not that the foreign meddling is to blame for the domestic trouble. Public opinion means nothing.

Public opinion is important but not for every thing.
The public opinion was convinced that the Earth is flat at the time. Their conviction didn’t make it a reality.

In general public opinion is important about relative things.
For factual things in low information society the relations of facts and public opinion defined by a dominating ideology and media bias.

78% of candidates on foreign-funded Navalny’s ‘vote smart’ list are Communists.

The so-called "democracy" movement trumpeted by western media...most of whom are commies themselves when you get right down to it.

That's how your average 'freedom' protest looks like. Although Western photographers usually aim lower and you don't see the flags in their reports.

“The public opinion was convinced that the Earth is flat at the time. Their conviction didn’t make it a reality.”

The Earth being flat was NEVER considered public opinion at any point (even the Ancient World knew that the world was round. In fact, probably the only thing different regarding then and the Enlightenment was that the Ancient world if anything underestimated the size of the planet, or more specifically underestimated the amount of continents on there.). That claim was made up by Voltaire and his buddies as a way to denigrate Christians and falsely prop up atheistic rationalistic Enlightenment. If anything, the whole “Earth being flat” soundbite was an early instance of fake news, not actual public opinion.
