As a boy attending Washington Redskins games with his family at RFK Stadium, a short distance from his home in Marylands Montgomery County, Dan Snyder would gaze across the field and peer into the owners box. Other kids daydreamed about playing on an NFL field. Snyder envisioned himself lording over one.
Id just watch, Snyder once said, and imagine what was happening in there.
Since 1999, when he was 34 years old, Daniel M. Snyder has watched the Washington Redskins from the seat of power he once fantasized about. The desired trappings of NFL ownership have remained elusive, barely any closer to him than when he sat in the stands.
The upcoming NFL season marks the start of Snyders third decade as Washingtons owner, an occasion to take stock of his impact on the franchise and examine the state of his stewardship. The Redskins have morphed under Snyder from one of the NFLs crown jewels to a success-starved organization in persistent unrest, a franchise lacking in on-field accomplishment and seeking its first playoff win since January 2006, rife with off-field issues and facing the monumental task of building a new stadium Snyders best opportunity to reenergize Washingtons fan base and revitalize his franchise.

“The best football is on Saturdays anyway. “
no doubt about it ... much more exciting since there are so many different coaching philosophies in college ball vs the boring, homogenized “play to not lose and hope the other guy makes a bunch of mistakes” philosophy in the NFL ...
Yep Fed Ex Field opened in 1996 or 1997 as I recall. It’s barely 20 years old and already ready for the wrecking ball?
Every good Cowboys fan knows that the only NFL owner worse than Jerry Jones is Dan Snyder.
That was a joke, right?
Ashburn has land and wealth. Plus metro soon to include the rest of dc.
They have won but three playoff games and have barely better than a .500 regular season record over the last 22 years. Where it actually matters, hes done poorly.
You are right on the money. Steinbrenner was an egomaniac and a felon. That punk Bud Selig never shouldve let him back into Baseball.
uh yeah. steinbrenner.
Yes.
Karma could see Zeke go down with a knee on his first play from scrimmage this Sunday. Oh, I forgot. He had been continuously working out down in Cabo. Sixteen ounce curls.
Potomac Yards would have been a fine site, provided that a metro stop had been added as part of the deal. I presume that would have been done. But that option is now gone.
Just dumb from the Cowboys to do that to a guy they already have under contract, and at the most fungible position.
They could stick anybody at Running Back and still get 1,000 yards from him.
Plus, Zeke hasn’t been all that great in 3rd and short situations, which is really the only thing that matters with a running back.
The Cowboys are going to rue the day.
I'd be ok with razing some federal office buildings, but I wouldn't be ok with razing everything on the Mall and turning it into a big asphalt parking lot for football fans to use eight days a year.
The Anacostia waterfront had some possibilities, but Jack Kent Cooke moved before the waterfront redevelopment was far enough advanced. The Nats and DC United have great locations. The Deadskins are in Landover kicking themselves.
Moving across the river to Poplar Point within easy walking distance of the Anacostia metro station would be an interesting choice. That area is starting to improve (even Barry Farms is being replaced) but it's early enough that a package could probably be put together at reasonable cost. The whole Anacostia corridor is going upscale over the next generation, and it would be neat to have all three stadiums anchoring the southern end. A far suburban location like Ashburn is the easy default choice, but anywhere on the periphery imposes nasty transit times on three quarters of the metro area.
In retrospect, the Redskins should have simply rebuilt at the RFK site. It was as central as could be, short of razing the Capitol Building and using the Mall as a parking lot; it had a metro stop; the parking lots emptied directly onto an interstate across the river and into a high capacity residential street grid on the Capitol Hill side. I've lived on the Hill since 1979 within walking distance of RFK, and Redskins traffic was never a problem. And lest we forget, at RFK the 'Skins had the best blimp shot in the league. I imagine smart people in the organizations regret ever leaving, but Jack Kent Cooke was an old man determined to see his Taj Mahal built before he died.
I agree. Plus you don't have to worry about your team moving away nor prima donna holdouts.
I don’t like the fact that now there are so many quarterbacks who transfer.
It’s just plain weird to see Jalen Hurts in an Oklahoma uniform.
IMHO, they're both mediocrities.
Yes!
True especially in today's NFL. And Elliott is no Emmet Smith... I don't think he's even Eddie George.
They did a break down of Zeke in third and short situations, and he was right in the middle of the pack of NFL running backs.
Yes but if he hadn't fired Jimmy Johnson they could have won five.
