NEW YORK -- American doubles star Mike Bryan was fined $10,000 on Sunday for making a shooting gesture with his racket, aimed at a linesperson, during a US Open match at Flushing Meadows on Saturday night.

Bryan turned his racket upside down and held it as if he was holding a gun, in the direction of the official who had made a poor call. The incident happened late in the second set of the second-round doubles match between Mike and Bob Bryan and Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain and Federico Delbonis of Argentina.

If tennis rackets are outlawed, only outlaws will have tennis rackets.

Looking at the photo, I thought he was maybe doing a Jimi Hendrix or a Stevie Ray Vaughn imitation.

I agree about the “guitar” stance. People are such babies.

They would really have hated that prop golfer who used to pretend his gold clubs with epees.

They’d better arrest Biden.

I loved watching Chi Chi play the game and his famous “sheathing” of his putter when he made a difficult putt. I miss that.

Looks like the fans enjoyed it. Maybe the judge has seen way too many fuzzy balls.

was this a ‘high capacity’ tennis racket? Or a single shot? What type ammo did the racket use? Did he go through a background check before buying the racket? Does anyone know if there was a folding stock on the racket?

Thank goodness the authorities acted quickly, this could have turned into a real tragedy of violence as he smashed the ball back and forth over the net- Phew- Tragedy averted!

It was a “gun” mimic not a guitar. He pointed it at a judge over a bad call.

Bryan was right about the bad call, but wrong in making the “unsportsmanlike” gesture.

Had he thrown the judge the finger instead....?

Russia’s Medvedev fined after ball-boy antics, middle-finger gesture in fiesty US Open 3rd-round win

“Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has been slapped with a $9,000 fine for his behavior during his fractious US Open third-round match against Spain’s Feliciano Lopez.”

“Organizers have now acted, however, handing Medvedev a $5,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct and a $4,000 sanction for a visible obscenity.”

https://www.rt.com/sport/467730-us-open-medvedev-fined-middle-finger/

The knee jerk reaction here on FR over a gun reference in this case is unfounded. He shouldn’t have done it. It was WRONG.

Not just now, but it always would have been wrong.

Unsportsmanlike conduct? DEFINITELY. Tennis racket gun, finger gun, or middle finger gesture, are all inappropriate, deserving of fines.

Don’t apologize. Next time use a throat slashing sign. If anyone says anything, claim he’s one of the protect class, a muslim.

Yeah, but Jimi was left-handed, right?

Maybe a Pete Seeger imitation?

Does anyone know if there was a folding stock on the racket?

He didn't hold it like a vertical fore grip, so probably a sporting racquet.
