Before ESPN could ask Osaka a question, she went up to Gauff and gave her another hug, which drew roars from the crowd.
Osaka then was asked what it is like to mentor someone like Gauff. "I don't think I'm a mentor," Osaka said to ESPN, and then turned to Gauff's player box, which included the teen's parents. Both Osaka and Gauff live in Florida and have known each other for a few years. "You guys raised an amazing player," Osaka said through her own tears. "I remember I used to see you guys training in the same place as us," Osaka continued. "For me, like the fact that both of us made it, and we're both still working as hard as we can, I think it's incredible. I think you guys are amazing. I think, Coco, you're amazing."

And the players should be allowed to display a small number of logos, not full NASCAR.
Adidas sweatband! Some watch!
Classy, and not a gargantuine, towering wall of scrotum-smashing muscle, either.
Bille Jean King tweeted: “Congratulations to @Naomi_Osaka_, who showed greatness on and off the court. @CocoGauff now knows what she needs to do to get to No. 1. How fortunate we all are to have witnessed the dawning of a new era in womens tennis. #USOpen”
Ouch, Serena.
Well said G. Now, CoCo can sit back and wait for a ‘hang in there’ phone call from the one she says she admires so tremendously, Michelle Obama.
We can hope, although I can’t help but notice Serena has cloned herself (Townsend).
I only follow WTP on the periphery of the media virtue-signaling over women’s tennis and Serena, particularly. (Tennis Channel was so much better when it lost the WTP license...)
Nevertheless, I do like Osaka and Gauff, but don’t know much about Townsend, so thanks for the heads up on her.
Another case of the deification of a black athlete who hasnt won a thing.
Cori “Coco” Gauff is an American tennis player. She is a former world No. 1 junior, having won one junior Grand Slam singles title and another in doubles. She was the runner-up in the girls’ singles event at the 2017 US Open, making her the youngest finalist at the event in the tournament’s history. Wikipedia
At 14 a player can play in up to eight professional tournaments a year, a figure that rises to 10 events at the age of 15, 12 at 16 and 16 at 17. Only when a player reaches the age of 18 is there no limit.
I don’t know anything about her personality; I was just stunned that someone with that physique is a professional athlete.
Even more surprising that she serves and volleys!
You forgot to list all the tournaments she won in Pee Wee tennis.
NO one cares about her junior circuit success.
Ping me when she wins a REAL tournament.
Ping me when she wins a REAL tournament.
Please tell us about all your big wins!
And we will tell you if they are real.
All the Championships I was part of as a player and coach are irrelevant.
Like all the Championships CoCo has won as a Girl or a Junior.
