Sometimes old age and treachery are better at these jobs than youth and beauty. Those hot young things aren’t always the brightest. Reminds me of my days working in an HR dept. of a major industry. One of the managers had eaten his lunch at a local fast food outlet and had been smitten by a young female order taker. He brought her application in to the HR dept. to apply for a clerical position. When I informed him that she had no training or work experience for a clerical position of any scope, he said that “anyone can type and take shorthand, but it isn’t everyday that you hire someone who’s such a pleasure to look at”. Tells you where his priorities were. Sometimes a re-order of priorities dictates that looks be WAY down the totem pole on the qualifications list.

Anybody can type or take shorthand??? He shouldn’t have been in the job much less the pretty lady.

Back when I was working full time, there were plenty of smart and attractive young women working who knew when to keep their mouths shut. And it wasn’t in the 19th century either!
