I attended the first Tea Party National Convention in Nashville at the Opryland Hotel in 2010. Angela McGlowan was one of the speakers, and was very well received. In 2012 Herman Cain ran in the GOP primary race for the Presidency until unproven allegations of sexual improprieties caused him to halt his campaign. Much of his support, which was considerable, was from Tea Party types. And the country really missed an opportunity there.
The idea that the Tea Party was racist is nothing but a big lie from the Left. They didn’t have a policy argument they could win, so they fell back on the old standby of calling anyone they disagree with a racist. It’s a lie and it’s absurd.
