It’s not ‘gun violence’, it is young-black-man violence but no one seems willing to say that out loud. This is not to say that white people commit no crimes, but the problem that places like St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore, Omaha, etc., etc. face is violence committed by young black males. Black lives don’t seem to matter to them.
I don’t know what the answer is. Certainly the “don’t snitch!” movement isn’t making things any better for Americans, black or white, who happen to find themselves living in the afflicted area.
In Cape Girardeau, MO a 15 year-old girl was killed while out on her front porch last weekend. She had just started high school and had all kinds of plans. But there was some kind of dispute either with her or her family and a young man with an extensive criminal record drove by and shot her and her friendjust because that’s what you do if someone has disrespected you.
The ‘hood’ culture is toxic.
There are hundreds of ways to "fix" the problem--which is almost all young black men that are the sons of single black moms.
Every single one of them is far outside the Overton Window.

If you are willing to step outside the Overton window you could, for example:
--Ban single mothers from keeping their male children unless they can prove they have the means to support them
--Make parents financially responsible for crimes of their teenage sons, and jail the parents if they can't pay
--Require financial compensation of victims of crime (including putting a dollar value on injuries and death) and requiring the criminal to stay in jail until the compensation is paid (jobs in prison with compensation for that purpose)
--Full support of tough policing in high crime areas with a presumption in favor of police action in such areas in any disciplinary or court proceeding
--Public identification and shaming of high crime areas by the major media
--Public service announcements denouncing criminals and crime, and calling out black crime as appropriate
--Public signs of streets warning that the areas are part of a high crime area and should only be entered "at your own risk"
etc, etc, etc--the list is endless if there is no Overton Window to worry about...
