I dont know what the guy had in his garage. My garage has plenty of yard tools that would make excellent weapons. Also plenty of tools that could assist the youths to break into the house. They shouldnt have been there.

Without sarcasm: I’m reminded of a saying I seem to recall that the presence and persistence of broken / taped up / boarded up windows says something about how safe a neighborhood is.

Maybe he was afraid because someone was continuing to come onto his property uninvited. It may be that he was constantly afraid, and so he boarded up his property.

Which could mean this home was purchased in the last four years and the homeowner fairly new to the neighborhood.
