I have been in 2 tornados over the past 30 years living in Kansas. The first one on March 13, 1990 drove me into a cellar with strangers south of Hutchinson. This was the famous F5 Hesston tornado. The university building I was in took a direct hit in June 2008. Fortunately, myself and seven other people took shelter in a meat locker/classroom. When it hit, my ears popped. Just two weeks ago, I drove through a wall cloud heading north back to Manhattan. Yes, it was stupid but I wanted to get home. Not bragging but I beg to differ w you. Tornados are terrifying and not meant to be screwed with.
We’ve had two tornados here at the farm - one in 2011 and one last November. Thankfully the house wasn’t hit but we had a LOT of tree damage and the 2011 tornado ripped the roof off the tractor shed.
No way I’d storm chase here because there are too many trees and hills but I’d do it in a heartbeat out where it’s flat for miles. :-)
