There were many advancements in the arts and sciences - more so than the impediments - made precisely because of the influence of Biblical Christianity. Literacy became almost one hundred percent in places like Ireland.
I have researched the whole Galileo trope. He was an egotistical jackass, envious of his contemporaries, who helped create the impasse. Neither side was entirely blameless.
