My ma was alive during quint mania. In the early ‘80s I was in a different city than she was. I told her one of the Dionne quintuplets lived three doors down from me. She believed it, I busted a gut.

In 1985 she lived in Cleveland, Ohio. I asked her if she’d heard that former President Richard Nixon had opened a big-and-tall men’s clothier in Syracuse, NY. She said she had not. Gut re-busted.

Smack the back of a little boy’s hand with a wooden spoon, will she? Ha!

No way to ever know, but I’ll just bet your Mom knew all along the truth about your statements. She may have known that you had a good sense of humor and saw yourself as a smooth talker, who could spin a good yarn. So she went along with it, because it was good for a giggle.

It was a way to bond with you, and it would cost her nothing to say she believed you. My late Mom was the same way.
It’s hard to surprise somebody who already knows you.

as a good counter prank- your Ma shoulda hired someone to act as a Belview mental institute Doctor to give you a visit and tell you that your mom called them to come pick you up because you were delusional and thought one of the quints lived next to you- lol

That’s something my family mighta done lol

So you lie to your mother and laugh when she believes/trusts you?

Odd sense of humor!
