Well, that’s Pretty F’ing Stupid if I say so myself. If you’re going to have a vegan option, why would they taint it with meat so religious vegetarians cannot partake?
It is reminiscent of when the British East India Company larded their powder cartridges with a combination of pig fat and cow lard, just so as to be offensive to both Hindu AND Muslims who had to bite the ends off the cartridges.

FLAVOR. Nothing can replicate the flavor of FRIED CHICKEN except real chicken.
There are fair number of religious Hindus in the US.
The first uprising of the Sepoy Rebellion, at Meerut in May 1857, was at least partially precipitated by rumors that the cartridges for the sepoys Enfield P-53 rifles, which required a lubricated patch that was manufactured as part of the cartridge (the patch was the paper container for the powder charge attached to the Minie projectile and was typically opened by biting it), were greased with beef tallow (taboo to Hindus) and pork fat (taboo to Muslims). The British East India Company had, in fact, gone to great lengths to avoid using animal fat for lubrication and waterproofing, even going so far as to issue ungreased cartridges that the sepoys were allowed to grease themselves using whatever mixture of fats they preferred. This only served to confirm the rumor that the initially issued cartridges had been greased with the fat of sacred (Hindu)/unclean (Muslim) animals. While not a primary cause of the Mutiny, the cartridge issue was one of the immediately precipitating factors.

Vegetarians and any “tastes like” stuff....if you don’t like meat, why the heck do you want to eat stuff that tastes like meat?
Grab a carrot, get a bowl of soy and go watch PBS...
