Chicago police unveil controversial new tool to track gun suspects

A new online tool launched by the Chicago Police Department allows the public to look up people who have been arrested on gun charges and whether they have made bail, prompting criticism by civil libertarians, according to The Associated Press.

“If we’re OK with how things are going, then don’t look at it,” Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said of the Gun Offender Dashboard. “But if you want to know why we are suffering from some of the things we are, then take a look at it and come to your own conclusions.”

In the meantime, shootings in the Windy City have reached a four-year low, with 1,210 shootings and 282 homicides in the first seven months of the year after 1,363 shootings and 321 homicides in the same period last year.

Sounds reasonable, but to be fair, there should be lists for all people who present a threat top society, like those who have been diagnosed HIV positive.

One look tells me this “Gun Offender Dashboard” is racist. Surprised it was ever released to the public.

This is all public data, as are all arrests. Chicago is just providing a tool to display it in a friendlier format. Most cities/counties have a website where you search using a name, because you’re typically only concerned with one person.

The dirty little secret is that prosecutors don’t use the laws we have.
If they were locked up, they couldn’t shoot anyone.

Chicago police have less than a 10% homicide clearance rate.

Hey Jackass

Doesn't give snitches a safe and warm fuzzy feeling.

"If they were locked up, they couldn’t shoot anyone."

But if they were locked up they wouldn't be generating massive taxpaid wealth for the lawyers, judges and the courthouse crew.

Total year to-date: 1,210 shootings and 282 homicides.

Unmentioned in news reports of Chicago City crime is what government entity is responsible for resulting ongoing medical and funeral costs. What are current year expenses?
Implausible that “victims” have any insurance coverage. Same question may well be asked of any municipal government.

The even dirtier secret. Mr.Lurkinalloomin, is that the prosecutors want them to shoot people. Them they can go to the Legislature and say,"the last gun law you passed is not working." "We need stricter Laws" and it was done. I don't know if you believe this or not, but the goal of the Republican Party and the Democrat Party is the total and complete disarming of the American public. With the exception of the Governmental Agencies, which they control. Believe it or not.

Most counties used to have a list that you could look at without a name, but it also allowed doing breakdowns by nationality and surnames. They didn’t want people to analyze the list of prisoners or criminals.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Happens every time there’s a mass shooting, which happens at suspiciously convenient intervals.

Chicago Police have something called Strategic Subject List. They compile data on subjects criminal activity and assign them a score, calling it an SSL number, with 500 being highest at risk for violence. It is a tool used to predict criminal activity.
