I haven’t heard about Habitat in years. When they started, they would just give people houses with predictable results. Residents would treat the houses as if they were disposable. So Habitat invoked rules when the recipient had to maintain the house to get it. So Habitat ended up with a surplus of houses as there was a shortage of those who would agree to maintain the houses. In dome areas Habitat stopped building completely.
I knew a contractor who donated materials and labor to build several Habitat houses.
Six years after completing one the hot water heater went out and the owner called him demanding he come and fix it.
