I have actually encountered this mindset. The teen daughter of a friend got pregnant at 17. Her mother pressured abortion, saying it would ruin her life. I counseled the girl toward adoption. AKA, have the baby but don’t “ruin” your life as a single mother. The girl ended up having the baby but keeping it.
I was actually told it was better to kill it than keep it, due to all the various bad life outcomes. I am aware of those odds, since suggesting adoption to a two parent family. Interestingly, liberals aren’t going around advocating mandatory contraception for the poor if they think it is SO evil for single women to have children.
Fast forward a few years, the girl is married with a second child, though not to the father of her first. The girl’s mother eventually warmed up to the child and forgave me.
I’ve noticed how many liberals assume the ONLY options are abortion and single motherhood. They ask, “What are you going to do for the babies once they’re born?” Adoption to a two parent family DOES take care of it.
