Some interesting jurisdictional issues. Has anyone ever been charged with committing a crime while in space?

A federally chartered bank (actually an S&L) in San Antonio, so the Western District of Texas should have jurisdiction.

CORRECTION: I looks like there are a couple of active charters

USAA Federal Savings Bank (San Antonio)
USAA Savings Bank (Las Vegas)

I think the Las Vegas one is the credit cards, however.

Wouldn’t that make it subject to universal jurisdiction?

Back in 1981 they had a criminal in space so they sent Sean Connery. Case closed. :)

One could make the argument for charges of piracy. Ship (space station) in international waters (space / orbit).

According to the free dictionary:

Piracy
The act of violence or depredation on the high seas; also, the theft of Intellectual Property, especially in electronic media.
