I think terms and condition of the forum is the main key to post something on a site so its better follow the instruction..

Most likely it’s your browser settings... or your browser working independently to censor.

Pardon, but you effed up the URL. Tag admin. Current link gives some whacky redirects including this:

frerepublic.com - Security Verification
By clicking the button below you’ll go through a standard security check, after which you will be redirected to Chrome store and will be given the option to install Secured Search extension. This extension will offer you a safer web search experience by changing your default search provider.

This is easy. Download CCleaner and use their browser.

You're welcome.

One other suggestion. Don’t know if your Mom’s computer is connected via WiFi or cable to the ISPs modem (presuming you’re using a combined modem/router). If possible, if you have your own laptop computer or access to another computer that you can bring over to your Mom’s, then you can plug that computer in and see if it can access FreeRepublic. If it can, then the issue is in your Mom’s computer. If it can’t, then the issue is “upstream” in the modem settings, ISP, etc.

Check your computer time to see if it will sync.
Check to see if manual setting is in place—use auto and repeat test.

If the any no connection error is observed, a Network Time Synchronization program helps some.

Using ATT and turning the WIFI off solved my connection problems.

CCleaner and Glary utilities 5 helps some.

You can disable the flash player in Windows 10.
“Internet Explorer may still work with some AOL services, but is no longer supported by Microsoft and can’t be updated. We recommend you download a new browser.”

Try using a browser start page with no video or ad content.

Install another browser and see if that one works.

OK so...

1. Computer works fine and normal otherwise?

2. The AOL browser can access other sites but not FR?

If this is correct there is more than likely nothing wrong with the PC. I honestly think this is AOL. Ever since day one they thought they could own and control your internet experience whether you want them to or not. Went right to netscape when it came out and ditched AOL back in the day because of their arrogance and proprietary control. They could be blocking access to FR. And would they do this? Yes, a few users at a time until it is unaccessible through using their browser.

Those who suggest downloading a different browser are right, try this before you decide to do any hardware work on that. Once Mom finds the buttons and what they do she will be good to go. Then if you like make the FR her homepage so that when she loads up the new browser it goes right to the FR first thing, and bookmark all her other favorite sites so they are handy and easy for her to find on the new browser.

The new Firefox is secure and has a cool feature that might be handy for Mom, it makes icons as bookmarks. You can “pin” about 12 favorite website icons into a list that looks like desktop icons so that you can see them all at one time and click what you like from them. So if you pin all her favorite sites onto this page, every time she opens a new tab all the icons are there to easily choose from just like desktop icons are.

I’m going to go download Opera right now and see if it would be just as easy and handy for her as Firefox. :)

I think this is it too. AOL has been arrogant like that since day one. Netscape was a god send when it came out.

Thanks, Daniel1212. All of your suggestions are things I have not tried yet and I will do them tomorrow. I am sort of brain dead tonight, and too tired to drive back into town to Mom’s apartment tonight.

Been there. I have been running Windows 10 for years, and use both Firefox ESR (with two profiles) and Firefox Quantum,. as well as Waterfox, Edge, Chrome and have no problem with FR, except sometimes liberal Google gives a warning about it being malicious. We connect via Comcast (a monopoly).

Note that Comporium Communications, like the rest, has a SERVICE AGREEMENT , which states in part,

I have read and understand the ‘Acceptable Use Policy’ that is a part of this Service Agreement. I agree to abide by those guidelines. I understand that my account may be terminated if I do not follow those guidelines. I agree to use Comporium.Net for only lawful purposes. I understand that I may not transmit or store any information, data, or material in violation of US federal or state regulation or law. This includes, but is not limited to, material protected by copyright, trade secret, or any other statute, threatening material, or obscene material.

The following constitute violations of this AUP:...Threats. Using our services to transmit any material (by email, uploading, posting, or otherwise) that threatens or encourages bodily harm or destruction of property.

Objectionable content. Using our services to post, transmit or disseminate any content that is, in our opinion, abusive, libelous, slanderous, defamatory, incites hatred or is otherwise offensive or objectionable.

Copyright or trademark infringement. Using our services to transmit any material (by email, uploading, posting, or otherwise) that infringes any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other proprietary rights of any third party, including, but not limited to, the unauthorized copying of copyrighted material, the digitization and distribution of photographs from magazines, books, or other copyrighted sources, the unauthorized transmittal of copyrighted software, and the unauthorized uploading and downloading of music and/or video. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account upon receipt of notice that you have engaged in such activities, regardless of whether or not infringement has been proven.

Comporium may take any one or more of the following actions in response to complaints and/or violations of the AUP:...

limit account functionalities

As usual with these terms of service (TOS) consents, it contains some ambiguous language( that would allow broad censorship (cf. objectionable content that is offensive or objectionable) which can be interpreted to place FR in violation, and you/us as users, now or in the future. What "limit account functionalities" means is also unspecified.

If it is your OS, then this may help confirm it: How to Create a Bootable USB Drive on Windows

Again, check your security settings. You might also temporarily turn off your firewall and if you can then connect to FR, then see How to Add IP Address in Windows Firewall

Looks like I fibbed to myself here, Just looked at Opera and while it might be OK for some folks, it comes “integrated” with facebook and Whatsapp. The word “integrated” is not part of my accepted vocabulary even if they claim it can be turned off.

Morning Dan, as always you share a very good comprehensive reply. :) I found similar with AOL. AOL and Yahoo are now owned by Verizon and part of the "Oath" concept including Huffington Post. AOL terms link to the Oath terms. I'm leaning towards AOL blocking FR.

If you can see other websites, my best guess is clear your browser cookies (you will have to log back on to everything) and then enter the full, secure address. https://www.frerepublic.com

You are missing an "e" in "frerepublic." The following is correct, and the https prefix should fix the insecure warning: https://www.freerepublic.com Or as suggested, http://209.157.64.200

I use a paid service so I’m not up to speed on the free options. But PC Magazine appears to have some suggestions: https://www.pcmag.com/roundup/285788/the-best-free-vpn-services

I had that problem sometime back. When we officially switched from Time Warner to Spectrum, we had to get a new modem. Strangely, the new modem solved the problem.
