When did Ryan say he was retiring? I think that may have been part of what Trump did in not worrying about the House?

"Losing the House" had nothing to do with it ... though I'm sure we have all suspected there was more to this retirement than meets the eye.
Personally, I think Ryan delusionally thinks he may run for President in 2024.
HE WILL NEVER SUCCEED OF COURSE. Trump people will NEVER FORGET how he sabotaged the WALL and other MAGA initiatives, and how he probably was ready to go along with removal of Trump in 2017, had the plot gotten to his desk as Speaker.
Ryan is forever politically DEAD for national office, but probably doesn't realize it.
