There has been a lot of talk but limited action during the past few years regarding the issue of great white sharks in the waters off Cape Cod. Much of the talk, however, has gone on behind closed doors, leaving the public and the press to speculate on what, if anything, is being accomplished, and what shape any potential remediation effort might take. This must change. snip
Although we appreciate the need for a thorough, unbiased, and even-keeled conversation on how to deal with great white sharks, the exclusion of the public and the press, even at this early stage, is unfortunate. Members of the public have in the past offered up innovative solutions to other environmental conundrums, and local media outlets provide an opportunity to both disseminate information and inspire possible alternatives. Furthermore, the creation of a single regional body whose meetings are open to the public seems like the logical response to a problem that goes well beyond the borders of any one town. Obviously, something must be done about Cape Cods shark issue. The likelihood of public buy-in of a plan, however, will be directly proportional to how much the public feels connected to the process that created that plan, a fact that officials should bear in mind as they continue to meet behind closed doors.

Tom Here- There are so many conflicting agendas; this is another example of an unsolvable problem. -Tom
“A regional shark working group “
I’m going to start one of these here in Iowa.
Great white shark’s gotta eat.
Bet Democrats taste real bitter.
Does this mean they are trying to remove Great WHITES from Cape Cod? Secret meetings? Perfect example of racism.
Drive the Great White Sharks to Provincetown. They will eat a few gays and will die of AIDS. Problem solved.
Public meetings will afford everyone with an agenda to grandstand and result in chaos.
The towns are in a bind, with so many conflicting agendas and people looking to make money on the problem.- Tom
Remediation? For sharks in the water?
Its called, Go to a swimming pool.
These people are idiots.
Use a little garlic and let them marinate. They are a little gamey, but it is passable in a pinch.
The best approach would be to have town hall meetings where people can get worked into blind panic. Fear is always a good foundation for sound decision making.
Here's the solution: kill all the seals and the sharks will go away. As a bonus, seal fur makes a wonderful cold weather coat for those bitter Cape Cod winters.
If the Cape loses some tourism dollars the Towns will be faced with lower property values, and increasing taxes.
That will be collateral damage. - Tom
Cull the seals and the politicians that support them and the sharks will go away. Wasn’t a problem ‘til the seals showed up.
LMAO-I liked your post.
That OPEN METINGS was tried in the past, and meetings got so hot and heavy that people had their lives threatened for their views, and wild accusations were made about some the participants. - Tom
Good luck! You’re fixing to get a deluge of really stupid new rules and regs. If it’s like Texas they’ll be too stupid to be enforceable but they’re on the books.
They will think the sharks are harmless critters.

You could always have the governor appoint political hacks to a Blue Ribbon Shark Remediation Council to study the problem, see which agenda was willing to pay the most and then set rules and regs with the proviso to form a larger and more inclusive council in the near future.
After all, that plan worked so well for the NMFS

Yesss, ... I get to play Robert Shaw. I’ll bring my own chalk board.
I don’t go down there to surf anymore. I’m sure most of the smaller surf shops/lessons will go belly up.
Last time I was down there in July, NO ONE was in the water. That doesn’t bode well for businesses down there.
But don’t worry, The government funded Woods Hole shark enviro-whackos won’t be economically hurt.
Also I heard pool sales were up on the Cape.
Here’s a simple idea: - stay - out - of - the - water!
Problem solved. No deaths. Cheap.
