Saw the movie at the theater a few years ago. Was so impressed with it that we bought the DVD. It's a fantastic movie that the left normally will ignore since it shows the religious right rebelling against the tyrannical government of Mexico. Very little of this is written in history books.
Good cast too ( Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Peter O'Toole)

It is a good movie. It is too bad this reviewer is ignorant of and/or inimical to the Catholic Church and Catholics. He doesn’t like it that Protestants were left out of a movie that is set in a time when there were few or no domestic Protestants in Mexico. He would be more comfortable if some Methodists or Primitive Baptists were dropped in from somewhere.

I have praised this movie frequently on FR, as well as other chat rooms. The acting and the way the story unfolds are first class. To understand Mexican political behavior today, it is necessary to understand this movie.

The Rockefeller Republicans with the endorsement of the Republican President, delivered he WMDs of that day to the Marxist Calles so he could carry out genocide of Catholics and libertarians who supported religious freedom. In exchange for the WMDs, the Rockefeller Republicans go the Mexican Oil.

PAN political party is the heirs to the Cristeros. PAN president Fox was a libertarian leaning Club for Growth type guy. Social Conservative PAN President Calderon would be loved by the Alan Keyes wing.

But there is one problem. The word is that the Republicans want to commit genocide on Catholics and libertarians. That is based in fact and history. Many Mexicans don’t know the details. But they know they can’t trust Republicans.

Once I get around that obstacle and convince my voters that my candidates are not Rockefeller Republicans, which they aren’t, the PAN people are my strongest supporters.

But when a Jim Rockefeller Ryan runs for governor as a Republican with the avowed goal to murder an innocent man, I can’t get my PAN wife or daughters to vote for that alleged Republican.

I saw it. Was not aware of this movement. Overall, I thought the movie drug badly. Good cast (Garcia and O’Toole) but it just didn’t get there quickly enough.

The scuttlebutt is that the Knights of Columbus put a lot of $ into this and lost it.
