It's hard to explain but spend some time on "The_Donald" subreddit (on Reddit) and it will start to make sense.

Now those guys know how to meme and they have a lot of fun supporting President Trump.

The guy who created Pepe the Frog made him just a silly stoner character in a comic book, nothing whatsoever to do with politics.

He gradually became a “meme” because there were some good drawings of him saying things like “Feels Good!” that people posted when something went well for them, passing an exam or whatever.

At some point some disgusting racists took another step with the character and used it in a lot of white supremacist and nationalistic race-war propaganda.

The character’s original creator won financial legal settlements against them forcing them to stop, so the character has been less seen lately.

Pepe the frog was (is?) the mascot of the weaponized autists on the chans. They trace his origins back to ancient Egyptian chaos magic.
