Gotta question the conclusion of chum for cage diving causing the increase of shark attacks.
During the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s the head boat fleets out of NY and NJ did a tremendous amount of bait bluefishing, day and night, with literally TONS of chum being tossed at Cholera, the Acid Waters, the Mud buoys, the Mud Hole, 17 Fathoms, the Tin Can Grounds and numerous other well known fishing locations. I don’t remember any marked increase in shark attacks then.
That is another theory by mankind trying to figure out what sea creatures are doing, and why they are behaving in a certain way.
There is no end to speculations-maybe it is because people use sun block or wash more often than people did in the past.
Of course it might just be more people in the water and more sharks in the water. - Tom
In the far ago days that you are talking about, there was little or NO international protection for WHITE SHARKS & for SEALS. = The OVER-protection is the TRUE PROBLEM.
(For Tigers, Bulls & other “known to be man-eaters”, the MAJOR problem is CHUMMING-UP & even HAND-FEEDING sharks for the tourist trade, as once the dangerous sharks start associating people with FOOD, we have a REAL problem.)
I’ve studied sharks since I was a “shirttail kid” & once worked for Dr. Eugenia Clark, AKA: “The Lady with a Spear”, so I know a bit about sharks & their behavior.
