Antifa and the Collectivist Way of War
American Thinker ^ | 17 Aug, 2019 | Paul Krause

The Left cannot denounce Antifa because Antifa embodies the very ethos of war and violence that collectivism needs to thrive on. To assail Antifa would be to attack the heart of the cancerous poison that is destroying liberty oriented societies.

Michael Oakeshott was one of the preeminent English-speaking conservative philosophers and writers of the last century. His essay “The Political Economy of Freedom” is as relevant today as when it was published in 1949 in the aftermath of the Second World War, the rise of the bureaucratic welfare state, and the dawn of the Cold War. Oakeshott offers cold insights into the reality of our now venerated New Deal, Franklin Roosevelt, Clement Atlee, and the welfare architects who shackled free society.

The aim of collectivists in free societies is not to wage a bloody revolution like the Jacobins or the Bolsheviks. As Oakeshott says, modern advocates of collectivism disintegrate the integral and wholesome reality of liberty. “We are instructed [by the enemies of freedom masquerading as advocates of freedom] to distinguish between ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ freedom, between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ freedom, between ‘social,’ ‘political,’ ‘civil,’ ‘economic,’ and ‘personal’ freedom.” By focusing on only one or two freedoms, we are distracted as we lose our other freedoms.

I’ve seen mugshots of previously arrested Antifa members and they all look like their deodorants failed them.

When antifa pushes too far and they need to be exterminated they will be easy to take out. The snipers will be able to just pick off the people in masks. The unknown part will be, which side takes them out. History shows that the thugs of a revolution are very often irradicated by their own side.

Seems like they’re skating up to the edge of Bokshevik tactics. Practicing them.

Antifa is a Russian Communist Organization. They have been banned in all of Europe. But i do understand why the Left loves them, because the Left embraces communist ideals

My theory is that a fair number of writers are in the ranks of antifa, so if the Left wants to disown antifa, well good luck.

Antifa members, many of them, seem to be populist, and Californian. Correct me if I’m wrong, but they would have formed from as much as a reaction against the policy outcomes of the Libertarian Left as the Libertarian Right.

I really do think the Soviets intended to inflict Ayn Rand on us to precipitate such a group as antifa. To their minds is it fair to say that all capitalism is Libertarian capitalism instead of the softer/kinder populist variety?

Antifa is a Russian Communist Organization.

There is little benefit in blaming the Russians. The problem starts with our own people.

We have plenty of home-grown totalitarians in every country and in every generation. They are people who want power over others, and the Leftist ideologies provide them with a ready-made system to attain this. As does Islam.

Effective resistance to this infection requires individual and cultural intolerance of the people who spread the disease.

Class warfare. Dividing rich against poor, this group against that group, etc. It’s been a Bolshevik tactic for a very long time. The Utopian ideal if Hell is a paradise.

Yes.

I believe his thesis of disinformation and demoralization is correct, but insufficient to explain the purported success of the people wielding these methods.

The attacks on Western (and American) culture have been going on for well over the last 120 years with various ebbs and flows.

True that.

And that is why I also think there is a moral/spiritual equation involved,

-—that it is not just marxism because marxism is in its essence, evil. It is the same old battle that has been waged for all time; Good -vs- Evil. And it is evil that has made such advancement in the goals of marxism over that time.
