I only went to Beaver Stadium once in 1994. I was lecturing in economics at the school. A student sold me a ticket. It was when USC came to Happy Valley. The game itself was non-competitive. There was a redneck I had to sit next to who was absolutely plastered.
If you were sitting in the student section... at the time that was basically the south end zone... then you know how bad the sight lines are. When I had seats in that section the football game that day was nothing but a rumor. A few times I scored someone’s season tickets on the 40-yd line, under the press box. Much better seats, but still aluminum benches.
The worst drinking I saw (and I saw a lot) was when Jerome Bettis and ND came to town. The ND fans paid whatever it took to get the best seats and so they were sprinkled in just about everywhere. The PSU season ticket fans (unlike the students) were a reserved bunch. But when the game swung against ND, they were merciless on the drunk ND dude 3 rows in front of us.
