GOP and Democrats Disagree on Specifics of Background Checks for Gun Buyers
The Epoch Times ^ | 08-14-19 | MASOOMA HAQ

After the recent high-profile mass shootings, lawmakers are again faced with the questions of how to stop gun violence and if Congress can get through the historic gridlock on gun control. While there is bipartisan agreement that something needs to be done to stop gun violence, the two parties cannot unify on what the specifics are. Democrats want immediate gun control legislation while Republicans are focused more on mental health to root out the epidemic. Hoping to break through the gridlock, Senator Pat Toomey (R-Penn.), and Joe Manchin,(D-W. Va) sponsored a bipartisan bill. Their bill aims to expand background checks on all commercial sales, including gun shows and internet sales.

Core problem: the people submitting to gun background checks aren’t the ones the check wants to detect.

Doesn’t help that progressives seem to assume _nobody_ can pass a background check (seeing as they never express “well you passed the check, get whatever you want”).

Ridiculous. Every firearm I’ve ever (maybe) purchased from a (supposed) Internet dealer had to go through an FFL. The only exceptions (possibly) are FFL02 C&R firearms, but I had to go through the motions to get and maintain that with the BATFE.

Their true intent here is to ban private sales, and if they can ban private sales of firearms, they can ban private sales of ANYTHING. This is a long term goal of Marxists. Once they control private sales, they control the populace.

Why are Republicans doing something anyway? Every time there’s a non-urban mass shooting, they have to curl in the fetal position whenever the Left howls. Did Democrats drop everything and worked with Trump on fixing immigration.

Just remember that the mental health professionals that will be deciding if you can keep your guns are the same people insisting that we have to accommodate and celebrate those who reject their own biology.

Their bill aims to expand background checks on all commercial sales, including gun shows and internet sales.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are already covered under current law.
If you buy a gun on the internet or at a gun show, you still have to pass a background check.
The dealer at the gun show will run the background check and the seller on the internet will only ship to a dealer in your area that will run the background check.
You have to love the way Republicans represent us in “negotiations” on new legislation. There isn’t a single issue to benefit gun owners in their negotiations. We are supposed to applaud them for simply not taking as many rights from us as the Democrats wanted.
Oh, and when the next shooting occurs, what will we be expected to give up?
And not one legislator will mention fatherlessness and mood drugs, the core issues in most shootings.
When you buy a 6,000 Pound F-250 Heavy Duty Pickup Truck that can cause unbelievable Carnage if the Owner decides to drive it down a typical NYC Sidewalk, do you have to pass a Background Check?
Are Felons forbidden to buy one?
Are People under the age of 21 forbidden to buy one?
A caller on Rush’s program yesterday proposed that we make a tradeoff: expanded, “meaningful” background checks in exchange for universal right to carry everywhere for those who pass them.
That’s been my experience.
The people drawn to “mental health professions” are generally screwed up people who went that way seeking to fix themselves.
It’s weird how the bozos on Da Hill have time to violate the Bill of Rights but they just can’t find the time to do something about illegal immigration. The Mexican “Coyotes” and Chinese Baby Tourism specialists are making a killing selling U.S. citizenship. It makes me puke. Chinese going to the Mariana Islands to give birth to “U.S.Citizens”? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The Anchor Baby Bullsh!t has got to go.
“Their bill aims to expand background checks on all commercial sales, including gun shows and internet sales.”
I haven’t read the bill, but on its face this is complete BS. Such commercial sales are ALREADY subject to a NICS check - since about 25 years ago.
No, what the Dems are seeking is a “universal background check,” which is their euphemism for “gun registration.” You see, a universal check would also (and purposely) make every private sale or gift of a firearm subject to a background check. Well, I’d like someone to explain to me how that would be possible without EVERY SINGLE FIREARM being registered, AND EVERY SINGLE GUN OWNER being tied to the specific firearm(s) that they own. Otherwise, the concept of “universal” is an outright fraud.
REGISTRATION OF GUNS AND GUN OWNERS IS THE GOAL - pure and simple. Such a bill, or anything laying the groundwork for it, MUST BE DEFEATED!!!
