Per the article, the gator in question lived in Sun City, which is Bluffton (mainland), strictly speaking not Hilton Head (the island per se). The gators on the island generally feed mainly on the golfers rather than the residents.
Either way I knew it must have happened in an urban setting. Had it been rural the conversation would be on best stuffing recipes. I have to admit, thats one I have yet to add to my rural repertoire.

I live in Sun City. There are two gators in every pond. It was foolish of her to walk a dog by a pond.
Not long ago, a NY woman walking a dog in Sea Pines was killed by a gator. Dragged her in and rolled her over.
